Job Description

Job Summary:

The position is responsible for the effective andefficient provision of legal advisory services and ensuring effectivemanagement of legal and contractual risks.

Job Responsibilities:

Provide timely and comprehensive legal advice to the company on the legal implications of proposed policies, decisions and actions.

Implement best practice for legal services within assigned entities.

Liaise with external counsel in conducting due diligence exercise and debt recovery exercise on foreign customers

Generally assist in the recovery of debts

Maintain at all times a quick turn-around time and ensure the provision of constructive and clear Legal Advisory Services when requested for and within the requested timeline.

Review progress of outstanding litigation and arbitral proceedings

Coordinate with external counsel in order to pursue legal cases for and against the company in order to ensure that the interest of the company is protected at all times

Maintain at all times and create  (where not available) records i.e. statutory books and records 
Act as custodian of the incorporation documents of the company 

Review on going cases and advise management accordingly

Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks are identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken

Provide legal protection and risk management advice to Management especially on contract management

Provide and interpret legal information, conduct training and disseminate appropriate legal requirements to staff

Review all contracts or any other documentation where the Company has committed itself and assess legal implications that need to be brought to the Management’s attention.

Prepare, review and modify contractual instruments to assist and support various business activities

Negotiate, review and draft documentation for business transactions and prepare and advise on the necessary checklist to be adopted to ensure information is submitted on time. 

Perform other duties assigned

Job Requirements:

LLB degree; BL Honours

Minimum of 7 years’ experience ideally in a leading organisation / law firm, with a proven track record in contract negotiation and drafting. 

Minimum 4 years’ demonstrated excellent legal advisory on Oil &Gas related transactions

Proficiency in the use of MS Office package
